Where do we go with our education?

by Paul de Blot 1 August 2009 permalink

Politicians will do anything to get out of crisis. That is very commendable but the practice gives the impression of panic. The focus is mainly on the recovery of the economy, because we can not our posterity indebted charge. That seems like a good argument. It is very true the next generations with chunks of our crisis to leave. But unilateral economic recovery is primarily a recovery from the established order, but at the expense of future generations.

A radical renewal requires a renewal of the people with mental inspiration for the future. Inspired people are able to restore the economy itself. Inspiration of the youth's radical renewal of the future, because they are the bearers of the future.

In this light requires the upbringing and education to the utmost attention and highest priority. There is already invested heavily in education, especially in the management and control systems like one does with companies with market forces. Of educational institutions are required to produce good knowledge to the students to deliver. But despite the high costs and years of innovations prove our students not to count their language and lack of control.

The bureaucratic mind is mainly the fruit of the tree nourished and not the roots. It has been overlooked by the student that knowledge is developed, not by the management. When I look back on my own upbringing I have the most to thank teachers, professors and teachers, men and women who managed to inspire me. The power of education lies not in the good management in the high financial investment or the extensive expertise of the teachers, but the simple fact that the man or woman apprentice or student with his or her knowledge knows how to inspire.

The success of education is mainly due to the inspiration of the teacher. This is a reciprocal relationship for both parties an enriching learning process. Yet this relationship is not honored its value. You deserve nothing. I can see how inspired teachers with great love and care to inspire their students know, but their salaries very little appreciation.

Schools that fail to comply with the Protocol and inspection by the negative assessment, often show better results than schools that are to strictly observe the rules. Their success, they have due to the inspiring relationships of their teachers, with little money with their knowledge to inspire young people to know. Good parenting and good education requires attention to the formation of the whole man, with mind and heart and soul, body and spirit, sports and games.

    Dear Paul,

Thanks for your inspiration. Admirable words, how you always inspire vindt.Ik am also a long time working on this subject, I also have written and have a few years ago the group Reflection in education was established.
From time to time we organize meetings with people that want to be involved.
Interested readers of your blog can join. Please do so. To this end, my address will be announced. We strive for simple, everyday ways to be busy with inspiration. It is indeed the man or woman in the classroom that inspires. Whether the rector who inspires his staff.

    Dear Mr. de Blot,

Your article grabbed me from the heart! It touches the very heart of the matter.
Teachers often hear that they wholeheartedly opted for education, but that the protocols and other rules, which apparently become necessary after the excessive mergers of boards (all of which wanted to drive away), give them the deprives real motivation.
Another cause is the example set by the directors, they are no longer involved in where it is essentially about, namely children a happy school and give development time.
A judgment of a driver bovenschools about their mission, "Teaching as the law prescribes for us!" Yes believe than your ears anymore. How can you add your own directors and teachers are motivating?

The mergers are the boards too much like businesses, while they have to fulfill a public key.

It is clear to me that we can not go back to 20 years ago, but a reconsideration of the usefulness and scale of these institutions might provide more insight. The standards from The Hague are usually grafted onto Randstad standards and not well adapted to rural areas.

Timing of this is a challenge, but how can we influence our small scale? Do you see opportunities? and if so what? It seems to me very inspiring to agree on this with each other to exchange ideas.

@ Hans Pasman: There are opportunities as I mentioned in my article. There are schools that are not strictly follow the rules and good results. Start with yourself and you will eventually definitely influential.

Again a very inspiring article. My thought is always: "What you sow you will reap" and "the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow". What kind of leaders would we want to harvest for our future? Formed to our image or a generation with a positive outlook all of us in the new age can steer.
What I is the most surprising is that the knowledge that one side is transferred, again at the time of aging is that it is incorporated. In the current time with the rapid development of knowledge, knocking over sacred cows, a more holistic approach to development rather than just economically useful knowledge is a teacher / school impossible to teach all these facets.

If we want responsible, caring, righteous leaders we must reap the educational change drastically and ourselves a little less important. Children are well aware of who, what and how they can learn best if we dare to give them the justification for that.

Still thank you for this inspiring article,

    Sincerely, Michael Jansen

Dear Mr. de Blot, Dear Paul,

    an article to my heart!
I've spent the last year a number of attractive jobs are allowed to do in education (HBO). Besides giving lectures if I do three studies where students CORRECT had an important role. What was - in all studies came / comes forward ...... CARING & SINCERE INTEREST!
That is what both students and teachers need. Is this strange? No, it's what we all need. Without genuine interest and attention of the other one can not grow! Without sincerity no inspiration.
The success of education is academic success for student and teacher. Study Success can achieve together. It is and remains the student center.

Or the teacher too little salary? I honestly do not know - I know the salary .... perhaps this is precisely the balance. Sincere interest and attention is the proper valuation in attention and interest and also in money.

Paul, all comments I read your comments - I'll see you some time to react with the words ... start with yourself ....
With a number of Q-Search partners, we started STUDY SUCCESS. In addition to business coaching, we also engaged in other activities that enhance academic success. By starting with ourselves (as a business coach for HBO students) we can make all the difference. What does a business coach? That question lies at the coach of the student and that makes great experience for both students and business coach.

For the coming academic year we have again a number of activities on the program - of course with genuine interest and attention!

Rightly focus on the quality and importance of education! But how can we influence it? How we let the opinion of Paul de Blot - which more and more people share happy - explicitly by working 'outwards'?

Until now we did not notice much of a more spiritual attitude in politics. But that things can be proven by the rise of political Party for People and Spirit (human), who from nothing now since its inception in March 2008 and currently has 500 members strong growth (www.mensenspirit.nl), with the slogan Politics from the Heart!

On education, they say in their draft program:
"Every child is unique and personal skills and qualities by challenging and loving guidance and education to be helped to flourish. It is promoting its own authenticity and consciousness development center in conjunction with the realization part of a living and social whole.
It provides educational tools for both the function in this society as well as space for the development of the specific qualities of each child's emotional, social, intellectual, material and spiritual grounds.
Schools have the same size to have a human scale. Education no longer sets the one-sided emphasis on mental knowledge and collection of facts, but also independent and experiential experience. Technical and skilled manual grades get many opportunities for development, as well as other innovative approaches, such as meditation, holistic coach ring etcetera.
Schools are given space and freedom to create its own identity and approach to develop, allowing different types of learners according to their own talents, education and guidance received.
Parents and children should be closely involved in education. "

The time seems ripe for a new sound, even in society.
    A spiritual sound in politics.
Meanwhile, though 26% of the Dutch population declared themselves to be attracted to "cultural creatives." A collection of people outside the beaten track to open to nature, philosophy, spirituality etc (gross incompetent Motivaction).
People who are open to a new wind, even in politically Netherlands.

    Day Mr. Blot,

The world is working to repair the economy and then proceed as usual. Pity, pity, have (had) we have the chance to bet on sustainability, conscious consumerism, the search for a different kind of economy where the wealth is better distributed in the world. But the shirt is nearer than the skirt and the third world eg but should save.
The dichotomy in the world includes not only material wealth but also knowledge. Education, training, knowledge for our young generation of incredible importance. You have to invest in and drop support. Schoolbooks way, classroom training away, computer on your lap and look out for yourself, I freak it. Teachers who inspired you warm for a profession that works.
I greet you mer warm regards,

    Dear Paul,
Your story exactly right, but they are happy not only the schools and institutes where people know to do. The system and especially the manner in which the results of the system is measured are the biggest problem I see. On the issues that are rightly done, no measurement, while reasonably possible. Education has come to resemble many other large companies and their customers so their reason for being in the eye are lost.

    Dear Paul,

You indicate, mi right, education as a social and spiritual process. The quality of the interaction is decisive for the results. Non-Plan as required curriculums and teaching material are the starting point but the social interaction and inspiring process. An interesting part of this way of looking at the reflection process in education. Pupils and teachers in different contexts look back on the quality of the interaction. Without it, education has become less transparent and what to do with the teachers and their interaction with students that we as adults do not look back with pleasure?

Look at what the children need in the evolving social context.
    The interaction search then ..
look back on the quality of interaction and
what the interaction would come to consciousness.

The article is so relevant at this time because we really should not unilaterally seek a recovery of economic life, but to an integrated social future. Knowledge is in the future may otherwise require, from IQ to EQ to SQ (Spiritual Quotient). The (brain related) human thought based its limitations. Knowledge of the heart is unlimited and increasingly needed. The world is for our children because more complex. That may mi more focus on the state tests for students.

    Salute Herman van Kampen

    Dear Paul de Blot,

Thank you for your always inspiring and encouraging messages. I read them always faithful and I usually agree with you completely. I work as biographical and art therapist.
I used the mental health care in Maastricht, where I worked early 70's had to call an education leader.
Pretty soon after I noticed that if the goal in therapy is not; head and heart to connect people and assist them in developing their own specific tools for life; hetvaak all leads nowhere.
What You write that it is of the utmost importance that motivated and enthusiastic teachers for the classroom to inspire our youth or even just the enthusiasm that children have to vanzichzelf wakkeren.Dit is gripped me from the heart. The teachers we remember are positive but always those from their own soul fire stood before the class.
I myself addition to working in the youth, therapeutics, drug addicts and private practice in schools always worked with children and know from experience that children benefit most from relevant interested leerkrachten.Nog not so long ago, a boy (high school) that I conversations had at school: "Yes, if I could get ...... math teacher, so I would now also be able"!
It is striking but also characteristic that I am currently in my practice, many social workers and teachers have. Almost all people who break down on our bureaucratic society where slowly involvement seems to be a dirty word. "Non-Professional" is said. Well, besides looking with compassion and understand everything it is nevertheless also be addressed to tackle.
I see it at this time only to do on my own square meters and with the few people that herkennen.Daar are the texts that you send are of great interest. I promote them where I think it is the orrde.

    Dear Paul,

A nice article and oh so true. Passion and inspiration comes from the spirit of making something together, something else than knowledge.
If one's life or teaching it to make or assess on the basis of good grades, it seems impossible to experience inspiration, let alone that they can grow as a fellow human.
It will in no way surprise me that money was going to give himself more valuable and therefore the less dignified learned to appreciate. Not only in education, everywhere there is much to learn the power of positive thinking attention.
    Sincerely
