How to lie with statistics

by Paul de Blot 1 December 2011 permalink

I do not think the policy makers of all those crazy numbers they need to handle to good decisions. In all areas will be asked to numbers. For each policy, whether it be education, health care, immigration, naturalization, or any policy, it seems that they first want to see figures to work responsibly. I can not deny that statistics are important as background information in order to be useful and applicable policies, but it remains an unreliable data. The computer can never completely take over the policy, because it is never more than one important way.

Knightly business

In the first centuries after Christ's leadership is often in the hands of knights with a high regard because of their great responsibility for others. We know the ancient tales of the knightly orders, such as the Grail knights etc. They were chivalrous at heart, loyal and faithful in their service, especially for their care for the weak of society and vulnerable women and children.

Innovation necessary in the care and education policy

On my two articles about the policies in health care and education, that is sick, numerous comments were. That's a good sign. It appears that education itself often become too closed for renovation. I've highlighted the interesting study of Gerrit Broekstra of Deep Leadership, leadership because it has so far been too superficial. It's the genetic code (mission and values) in the care and education.

The spiritual power of democracy

The European elections have again shown the unpredictability of democracy. That is to predict, because democracy is based on the freedom of the individual. That freedom is incalculable, because you never know what someone makes a choice. At the last moment, despite all the promises it can take a different decision. With the growth of democracy is therefore the unpredictability of the political process and so will also increase the chaos.

Social enterprise is feasible?

In the current crisis is the need for more humanity back in business more aware. Under different names for renewal is sought, as business spirituality, social responsibility, significance, ecological business, servant leadership, etc.

The enterprise also aims to ensure greater social responsibility for people. It is recognized increasingly that it is human well-being. The often wide gap between rich and poor is the biggest problem here is, although not always explicitly mentioned. Therefore, we in the Netherlands too good.

Obama cuts in the top salaries

Obama has the top salaries of the state-subsidized enterprises capped. Radically transforming the business trend with profound implications in the growth of businesses. A company must grow to survive. This growth can take place along two axes. This is the horizontal axis of the quantitative growth and qualitative growth of the vertical axis.

Against Obama because of the polarization unit

by Paul de Blot 16 February 2009 permalink

Obama wants to create unity in his country and throughout the world, unity and cooperation. He begins his battle against a government policy calls and polarization as a gay pastor at his inauguration to prayer. He celebrates his inauguration for a party where representatives of the most opposing groups to participate. He creates space for differences and will seek trust. Quite obviously he realizes that opposites can enrich and complement.

Crisis, powerlessness and social responsibility

In Algemeen Dagblad of 15 January this year I read a relevant message entitled "Topbazen supply of salary". The crisis brings an awakening going on in business. The head of NS is satisfied with a salary 10% lower than that of his predecessor. At printer manufacturer Océ see dozens of top managers on a salary increase and the board gives its bonuses back. CEO of TNT waives his salary increase because "I can not answer for my staff and the community as my income goes up considerably."

Spirituality has everything to do with, and lays bare the connections are at the deepest level. On that level there is room for everything that happens and everything that inspires people. There are no contradictions or competitive threat but enriching.
