What brings us 2012?

The messages do not bode well for 2012, a major crisis. It is how we see it. The economy is bad, but when I see the focus on charities is growing and there are beautiful things happen, such as the awareness of sustainability and spirituality, the image is different. Someone with thirst, that half a glass of water, moisture can react with disappointment, "but a half-full glass", or gratitude, "fortunately a half-full glass".
The Secret of Christmas

Christmas is an event that is celebrated around the world. You notice that in these days when you make an international flight. In Indonesia the largest Islamic country, Christmas is a national holiday for all people regardless of religion, true. There is Christmas Day of the Nativity called Hari Natal. That is indeed the deepest meaning of the Christmas Happening as awareness of the birth of the child in my life and in our lives. As a personal event and also as a collective process. In fact, the birth is the most fundamental in our lives, no improvement or innovation, but as a new beginning.
What does it cost?

Our whole policy now seems to be determined by one question: what does it cost? Whether it is the unity of Europe is, about the education or care about, everything is increasingly determined by the "what does it cost" question. A recent example is the pension scheme, which leads to a fragmentation of the unit and loss of control of the union because the problem is how much it costs.
Saving energy - a source of panic

In every key there is to hear panic as a result of the cutbacks. Across Europe, we know not to handle the situation. It is as if the economy is about life and death. From a financial standpoint, this can be true and indeed the situation seems hopeless. Materially because there is no clear view. The physical world is by definition focused on growth and disintegration. Life and death. Not be verified. As a chaotic process.

A hospital experience
I'm sick, this summer, in a not too large hospital may experience as a care in the most profound human tension between life and death. There, with the utmost effort for people by people working in an extremely complicated situation, where human error is almost impossible to avoid.

On August 4, 2011 called Dick Wittenberg in an editorial from NRC Handelsblad fourteen reasons not to give money for emergency aid to the Horn of Africa. There is only one reason opposite to do so. When we think about hunger, there are more arguments to find nothing to give because people are seen as objects of hunger and figures about aid.

The cuts proposed by the present government are radically introduced. The consequences are just as radical, because nobody has more about security. Nobody has yet guarantee whether they can retain their jobs, or they can cover costs and earn a living may provide.

Sustainability and hot issue. The media are full of it, the government speaks of it in its procurement policy, even with the energy issue is raised and the cutbacks of the cabinet, is not forgotten. But in all these discussions, people are hardly aware that this focus on sustainability often very one-sided and only touches the outside of it. Prof. Herman Wijffels, Professor of Sustainability, emphasizes that sustainability is ultimately about human welfare, that's not something on the doeniveau but at his level. These human inside is often overlooked, even though that is precisely the essence of sustainability.
Remembrance Day and Liberation

We have the dead commemorated on May 4 and 5 May is celebrated their liberation. Given the exuberance with which liberation was celebrated this day proved to be no mere formality. The commemoration was slightly harder but still has many deeply. We have our dead commemorated, often including our loved ones. We are grateful also to our freedom because we owe them. Partly thanks to their sacrifice we are now enjoying our prosperity. We remember the people whose idealism have done something great, often without the necessary resources. Therefore it is good to go deeper into this.
